Sam Davies – Sailor, Record Holder in the Round Britain Race in 2009
In June 2009 Sam Davies competed in the Round Britain Race, sailing with an all female crew, including Dee Caffari, in Aviva. The crew achieved a time of 6 days, 11 hours, 30 minutes and 53 seconds beating the previous record by 17 hours and 16 minutes.
Sam left Portsmouth High School in 1992 and achieved an MSc in Engineering at St John’s College, Cambridge.
In November 2008 Sam took on the ultimate challenge of the Vendée Globe round the world solo race and came fourth. She arrived home in February 2009 after 95 days, 4 hours, 39 minutes and 1 second having covered a distance of 23,680 miles in her boat Roxy, sponsored by Roxy clothing.
Sam is now about to set sail again to compete in the 2012 Vendée Globe which launches on 10 November. This time she is in a different boat Veolia, formerly sailed by Roland Jourdain in two previous Vendée Globe races.Her lead sponsor for the race is Brittany-based firm Savéol, France's biggest tomato producer.
