At Portsmouth High School we aim to foster an atmosphere of ambition and enterprise. We encourage every girl to develop her own voice and her own views; we enable every girl to understand and build on her strengths and above all we inspire in our girls the confidence and resilience to take risks and tackle new challenges. We hope that our pupils will grow to be active citizens of the 21st century, making and taking political, moral and ethical decisions upon which they have reflected, and in which they have a belief.

As one of twenty-six Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) schools, the largest provider of independent education in the UK, we benefit from belonging to a network of schools, all hugely experienced in girls' learning.

Our approach is successful from Day Nursery through to Sixth-Form. Our Nursery and Reception Class have been judged as ‘outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted whilst in 2011 we celebrated yet another impressive set of A Level results when 22% of girls achieved straight A*/A grades in all of their subjects. Grades A* to B, in all subjects taken, were achieved by 68.5% of candidates and the overall pass rate was 98.6%, maintaining our position as a top performing Sixth Form in the local area.

This year Portsmouth High School achieved the highest number of A* grades ever at GCSE level and the number of A*/A grades rose to an impressive 68.1 % of all grades achieved. All pupils achieved five GCSEs graded A* to C with 98.7% being awarded the gold standard five A* to C grades inclusive of mathematics and English.
