Innovation - business and community outreach

Part of our local and global community
We have an active business and community outreach programme, in which we aim to build positive local and global community relationships, create opportunities for others as well as raise money for community groups and charities.

Here is a flavour of just some of our ongoing projects:

Emotions community art project launched January 2011 Connecting Classrooms - a British Council funded project Sensory Garden at our Junior School and other city schools

A ground-breaking community art project which culminated in a public art exhibition of 220 unique pieces of art at The Cathedral of St Thomas, Old Portsmouth. Local artists, community groups and colleges were invited to create a piece of art, based on an emotion, which were brought together at the exhibition and sold to make money for Help for Heroes, The Rowans Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care. Portsmouth High School are part of a collaborative project locally involving City of Portsmouth Girls' School, St Edmund's, plus three schools from both Ethiopia and Senegal. The aim is to communicate regularly and understand each country's cultural and environmental issues, and develop language skills.

In January 2011 Portsmouth High School successfully bid for HSBC Sport and Sustainability Funding to create a sensory garden on our Junior School site, as well as at the Mary Rose School and St Swithun's Catholic Primary School. The aim of the gardens is to bring the curriculum to life and teach pupils about sustainable living through hands-on learning. The project will develop a unique partnership between the three schools as pupils, staff and parents work together to develop different gardens at each site.
These innovative projects help shape our school and give our girls a broader experience, better preparing them for University life and the world of work.
