Year 11 pupil Phillipa Noble has been awarded an Army Scholarship. There is tough competition for the Scholarships, with over 400 applications each year. Although Pippa wants to be a vet, she was competing against others wishing to enter the Army in a wide variety of disciplines, the selection process looks specifically for the candidate’s character and leadership skills.

Talking about her achievement, Pippa said;

“A year ago I made the decision to join the Army and decided I would apply for an Army scholarship. It all started with talking to Colonel Mann, my Army advisor. I then had interviews in January and the school had to write a report about me. Next, a letter arrived to say I had got through to the final selection board in April.

This was a two day course near Salisbury where I had to complete a variety of tasks such as an obstacle course, written tests, a timed run and a planning exercise. I also had to undergo a full Army medical. A week later I received the results back that I had been awarded an Army Scholarship. This means that I receive a grant for Sixth Form and university studying any course I choose. I then get a guaranteed job as an Army officer for a minimum of 3 years.”
