The second year of the Building Bridges Art project has now drawn to a close. The two year DfES funded project has seen our pupils work with girls from City of Portsmouth Girls’ School on two separate projects.
Year 7 pupils took part in a Print Making and Book Making Project, the twenty girls, ten from each school, worked with illustrator Jaqui Mair and over a period of six weeks they produced artworks inspired by story telling. They visited the Victoria and Albert Museum to see the ‘Surreal Things’ exhibition. They also looked at artists’ books in the national art library. Back in the classroom they allowed their imagination to connect different images together. They produced individual etchings, wrote poetry, created large scale group prints and made their very own artists books.
The Year 10 project was led by artist Brigid Dolby, 12 girls from each school took part in this project which focussed on photography and the theme of ‘identity and Place’. The girls worked in the areas of still life, portrait and landscape and the resulting photographs tell us about their lives, what is important to them and questions who they on a personal level as well as someone who lives and goes to school in Portsmouth. The pupils also looked at their local environment the seaside and the city’s maritime heritage.
Following last year’s successful exhibition the girls artwork will again be on show to the general public. An exhibition of this years work will be held at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard in Boathouse No 7 between 19 – 30 October. Girls and their families will be invited to a Private View on 18 October. |
