Emma is a grade 8 violinist and, in addition to playing with the Portsmouth High School orchestra, has been playing with the Hampshire Youth Orchestra for 3 years, touring Italy last summer.
Emma has also played with the Solent Symphony Orchestra as well as the All Souls Orchestra. Pro Corda is the National School for Young Chamber Music Players. Its mission is to develop the talents of young string players and pianists through intensive study and performance of the Chamber music repertoire.
To gain a place on the Pro Corda course Emma had to audition at the Royal Academy for Music. The Pro Corda Plus courses are aimed at young string players (8-18) who are seeking the opportunity to further enhance their music making in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere guided by some of Britain’s most experienced chamber music coaches. Emphasis will be on the enjoyment of rehearsing and performing together, while addressing the fundamental principles of ensemble playing.
The course includes performances and master classes given by visiting artists. Recent visitors have included Sir Colin Davis, the Wihan String Quartet, Midori, the Israel Piano Trio and the Gould Piano Trio.
On hearing of Emma’s success, Miss Blackwell, Director of Music said; “Emma is a valuable member of the school orchestra and as Music Exhibitioner contributes fully to school music events. This is a wonderful opportunity for her to play with other young musicians and receive masterclasses from some famous names”. |

Congratulations to Emma Fry in the Lower Sixth who has secured a place on the Pro Corda Plus Chamber Music Course for String Players to be held in August.
