Year 5 pupil Daisy Turnbull had a dream come true last week when she won a competition to be a Portsmouth football club mascot at The FA Cup Final on Saturday.
The competition was sponsored by energy company, E.ON, and organised by E.ON customer, the University of Portsmouth for the children of staff. Daisy had to design an energy efficient stadium, which included ideas of how to reduce the use of electricity and gas. Her entry clearly impressed the judges.
Daisy received a free football kit and will walk out onto the grounds at Wembley with the Portsmouth team at the start of the game this coming weekend.
Daisy's mum who works at the University said: “Daisy went absolutely bananas when she found out she had won. It was her birthday on Monday and she was feeling sad because her Dad was away on HMS Albion. She soon forgot about that when she heard the news.”
Daisy and other girls in the Junior Department attend an after school club every Tuesday run by coaches from Pompey in the Community. Year 6 pupils have also have taken part with great success in the Portsmouth Girls Football Tournament. They reached the finals and were just pipped on goal difference from capping a superb all-round performance. Their success has inspired many others with the result that we now have five teams entered for another tournament in June where we hope to do even better |
