us_bigger_web On Wednesday 25 June we welcomed Caitlin Corenblith to the School. Caitlin is a Senior School pupil from Lakewood, Colorado and she travelled to the UK to meet with staff and students with the intention of setting up an International Teen Discussion Club between her school, Lakewood High School www.lhstiger.com and Portsmouth High School.

Caitlin is co-ordinating the project as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project and chose Portsmouth High School as the first link school in the project because Lakewood and Portsmouth are friendship cities; having had a link since 1982.

Caitlin spent two days in Portsmouth and spent time with the Lower Sixth and Head Girl team to discuss her ideas which would include holding webcasts / videoconferences between students in her school and ours. The technology would allow students from the two schools to have an open dialog to discuss current events and issues facing teenagers today.

Caitlin said “My plan is to have our two schools eventually add a third high school (from another country) to the conference.  In due time, the three schools will add two more (also from other countries), and so on.  Who knows how far we will take this? “

Mrs Turner, who co-ordinated Caitlin’s visit, said. “I believe this project will be very successful. Caitlin is highly motivated and organised and has the drive and enthusiasm to set it all up. It will be of great benefit to our girls too, providing a unique opportunity to interact with students from other countries”
