kit_big                           Portsmouth High School Junior Department were celebrating today after their brand new football kit, which was awarded by the Football Foundation (the UK’s largest sports charity) arrived.

The new Nike kit worth £400 was awarded to the Year 6 and Year 5 football teams as part of the Foundation’s Junior Kit Scheme. The scheme provides new strips and equipment to teams across the county and is fronted by Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott.

The Football Foundation provides £1m worth of kit and equipment to junior clubs and schools, ensuring young players of all abilities have the best possible start in the game. The Female kit has recently been made available to encourage girls to get involved in the game.

Hannah Taulbut; PE Co-ordinator at the Junior Department said; “The kit looks great, the girls really love it. Football has increased in popularity at the school and we now have an after school football club run  by coaches from Portsmouth in the Community, part of Pompey FC."

"Also Earlier in the Year our Year 6 pupils took part in the Portsmouth Schools Girls Football Tournament, with great success.  They reached the finals, but were just pipped on goal difference; however, their success has inspired many of the younger girls."

Ellie Hoar (Aged 10) said of the kit; “We look really smart and now look like a professional team!!"
