On Tuesday 18 September the sound of African drumming could be heard throughout the Senior School. DrumCrazy a group which specialise in drumming and team building visited the school and worked with all our Year 8 pupils as well as Year 6 and Year 5 pupils from Dovercourt.
During the workshop girls learnt a number of different rhythms, were taught a Nigerian song to beat to, as well as learning all about the different drums and percussion instruments.
Miss Blackwell who organised the event said, “The girls had a great time and really enjoyed the sessions, which were not just about drumming, but also about teambuilding and co-operation. It was also great to be able to invite our Junior pupils up to the Senior School to take part.”
This is what some of the pupils thought of the workshop…
Fay Davies 8P – “I thought the DrumCrazy workshop was extremely fun. It was a shame that it only lasted an hour!”
Sophie Mason 8P - “Our workshop leader, John, was really nice and made drumming easy. He also taught us a cool rhythm and song at the end.”
Isobel Printer 8P - “DrumCrazy was a really great experience …. I Loved learning the African song and singing along with all the instruments.” |
