Junior pupils will be running 2km course around the Bandstand on Southsea seafront on Friday 5th June as part of the Tesco Great School Run.

The girls aged 3 - 11 years will be taking part in the annual 2Km event which encourages children to take part in exercise for fun and to help make physical activity a part of every school’s and every family’s lifestyle.

The school will also welcome the Tesco Great School Run UK Roadshow team, who will deliver a number of high energy sessions to pupils that morning, including an informative assembly and fun PE games and activities. The Tour team will also deliver a music-led aerobic warm up.

This year the Tesco Great School Run tackles to the challenge to get youngsters ready for the run through the mantra Ready, Steady, Go! It aims to encourage goal setting (Ready), good preparation through healthy eating (Steady), and gaining enjoyment from a healthy lifestyle (Go).

Hannah Taulbut, PE Co-ordinator at the school said; “We took part in the Tesco Great School Run last year and we are delighted to be able to host the Road show this year! We have some very keen runners in the school and as a school we attend a great number of fun runs locally, so we are all really looking forward to this event.”

“The KS2 pupils will run the full 2km but the younger girls, including those from our Nursery, will have the option of running a shorter course. This year we are also encouraging parents to take part in the run too! All pupils will be involved in the preparation for the run, including learning about different food groups and the importance of balanced diets before exercise. We feel it is really important for the pupils to experience different sports and activities and to use these to make independent choices for their own enjoyment and development.”
