School Choir reaches final of National Competition PDF Print E-mail

                                    larger_eton_web                                                                                        Senior Girls at Portsmouth High School are celebrating as their Cantabile Choir has been selected to complete in the finals of the Barnardos National Choir Competition.

 

The final will take place on Monday 30th March at the Royal Festival Hall, London. The girls will join singers from 12 other Senior choirs from across the county and will have just 8 minutes in which to sing two contrasting pieces with which to impress the judges.

 

After each choir has performed there will be an evening concert, where each choir will have the opportunity to perform 1 song as well as take part in two massed choir songs. The winning choir will be announced at the end of the concert, as well as receiving a trophy and certificate the winning choir will also have the opportunity to sing with the London Chamber Orchestra at St John’s Smith Square, regarded as one of London’s finest concert venues, attracting internationally renowned artists and performers.

 

Angela Blackwell; Director of Music at the School said; “I’m really thrilled that the girls have been selected for the final; they are incredibly talented, it will be a wonderful experience; the choir performed live for BBC Radio 4 in November last year so I am sure they will take this competition all in their stride.”
