An independent Sixth Form delivering outstanding results year after year
Ranked ‘Excellent’ in all categories by the Independent School Inspectorate – June 2015
Portsmouth High School is located in the heart of Southsea, Hampshire, just a few minutes walk from the sea. The school is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust network of schools, the leading provider of independent education for girls in the country.
Portsmouth High School was founded in 1882 and has an enviable reputation for academic success. Each summer pupils and staff celebrate impressive examination results both at A Level and GCSE. We credit our success to the hard work of our girls, specialist teachers, disciplined classes and highly regarded, traditional courses, which give our girls a firm foundation for academic excellence.

ISI Report 2015
‘Pupils are highly successful when applying to competitive universities for demanding courses in a wide range of subjects.’
Florie, Upper Sixth student
“It’s an incredibly supportive environment and I particularly enjoy the one-to-one discussions in class. There is a sense of working collaboratively rather than being told what to think and I like the freedom this brings.”
Bianca, Upper Sixth student
“The best aspect of the Sixth Form? It’s got to be tea and toast in the kitchen! I also love studying subjects at a higher level – especially Spanish which I’m really enjoying at the moment.”
Lauren, Upper Sixth student
I definitely feel I have become more confident since starting the Sixth Form. The freedom and informality are matched with responsibility and support. Staff are always willing to advise and help; there’s no sense of them and us anymore.
If I was to sum up Portsmouth High School in three words, I would choose friendly, encouraging and supportive. Portsmouth High inspires every student to achieve her full potential, treating everyone as an individual, and helping them to become the best that they can be.
