Junior Curriculum
At Portsmouth High Junior School, we enable our girls to experience a variety of learning environments, both indoors and outdoors. Lessons are interesting, stimulating and fun, and children have the opportunity to learn through first-hand, multi-sensory experiences. Expectations are high and spontaneity is encouraged.
We teach the Enquiry Led Curriculum from Reception through to Year 4. We pride ourselves on our enabling environment where happiness and academic excellence go hand in hand. English and mathematics have a high profile with lessons focussing on enjoyment.
Reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling are taught daily through creative writing and through specialist exercises to foster understanding and secure these fundamental skills. Investigative skills are experienced daily to enable pupils to feel confident when learning new mathematical concepts in order to problem solve and apply their skills in a variety of applications. Learning must be fun to engage as well as stretch and challenge all pupils.
