Senior School Taster Day
Looking ahead for a senior school place for your daughter?
Portsmouth High School is an independent school for girls located in the heart of Southsea in Hampshire which has been successfully educating girls since 1882. The school has an outstanding reputation for academic success and is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the leading provider of independent education for girls in the country.
Portsmouth High welcomes girls from Pre-school through to the Sixth Form and identifies strengths, guides enthusiasm and unlocks the potential of every girl.
A powerful learning environment – the focus on girls is reflected in the design of spaces, the use of digital technology, a challenging and rewarding curriculum and the way in which pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning.
A safe and happy place – the school is grounded in a culture of wellbeing, trust and respect of oneself and others. Academic achievement is set within the broader development of the whole person – social, cultural, spiritual and physical as well as intellectual.
An excellent preparation for the next phase at every stage – the Pre-School and Junior School provide secure foundations for Senior School; the Senior School provides a broad and balanced education that prepares girls to specialise at A Level; the Sixth Form provides a perfect bridge to higher study and the world of work.
Academic excellence – Each year pupils celebrate impressive public examination results at both GCSE and A Level and we credit our success to diligent girls and well-qualified teachers. Furthermore the girls study highly regarded traditional courses which gives them a firm foundation for academic excellence. Girls leave us for respected university courses and go on to excel in a range of careers.

What current pupils say...
Nabila, Year 7
When I first started Portsmouth High School in September 2016 I didn’t really know anyone else there. Luckily the school gives pupils many opportunities to meet new people.
By the end of the first two weeks I knew everyone’s name and made friends. It is very comforting to make friends and know that you are not alone.
Ever since I started at Portsmouth High School I feel like I’ve developed and grown because I have found some of my hidden talents such as being goal defence in the netball team, being second base in rounders and being successful at high jump. I’ve also found I am a great mathematician.
Millie, Year 7
I travel to school by train but there are many other options including the school minibus service. No matter what form of transport you choose you are sure to make lots of friends.
The thing I have enjoyed most about Year 7 has been the residential bonding trip when I first started. We went to Hillier’s Arboretum and were put in to teams and had to complete as many challenges as possible within a time limit. It was really fun! We then travelled to Fairthorne Manor and, after a delicious dinner and some well-earned sleep, we began our chosen activity. I chose raft building which was a challenge but fun at the same time.
I would recommend Portsmouth High School because of the superb range of activities on offer both inside the classroom and out. All of the teachers are kind and extremely supportive. I can honestly say it is the best school I have experienced.
