Millie | Portsmouth High School

Millie, Year 7

Joining the school was a daunting prospect at first. When I arrived I realised that this was going to be a completely different experience to my junior school. However, it has been a change for the better as I have grown in confidence since joining Portsmouth High School.

Joining the school was a daunting prospect at first. When I arrived I realised that this was going to be a completely different experience to my junior school. However, it has been a change for the better as I have grown in confidence since joining Portsmouth High School.

I was worried that I would get lost or wear the wrong thing but the pupils and teachers were so caring that I knew there was no reason to be anxious. I think that being at a girls’ school has helped me to become more self-confident. I am no longer scared to participate in ‘boyish’ activities as I know other girls will be participating.

I travel to school by train but there are many other options. No matter what form of transport you choose you are sure to make lots of friends. Catching the train has helped me gain independence and I would recommend it to any new pupils.

The thing I have enjoyed most about Year 7 has been the residential bonding trip when I first started. We went to Hillier’s Arboretum and were put in to teams and had to complete as many challenges as possible within a time limit. It was really fun! We then travelled to Fairthorne Manor and, after a delicious dinner and some well-earned sleep, we began our chosen activity. I chose raft building which was a challenge but fun at the same time.

I would recommend Portsmouth High School because of the superb range of activities on offer both inside the classroom and out. All of the teachers are kind and extremely supportive. I can honestly say it is the best school I have experienced.
