Throughout the school, learning activities are reinforced by activities beyond the classroom.
A successful school needs to cater for more than just a student's academic progress and that is why at Portsmouth High School we are committed to providing an extensive range of extra-curricular activities which embrace as many interests and opportunities as possible.
Clubs and activities take place at lunch-time and after school and range from those specialist clubs and societies linked directly to academic subjects, to a variety of sporting clubs, drama, music and Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
So whether it is Aikido or Cheerleading, Drama or Sudoko, there is something for everybody. The school believes it is important to enhance a student's experiences and knowledge through such activities and residential experiences.
There are also activity days during the year such as bonding days for Year 7 and Year 9, Year 10 Festival of Arts, Key Stage 3 and 4 outdoor adventure holidays and residentials and a variety of trips and visits to support academic subjects in the curriculum.
Planning for careers is equally important and in the summer term after their GCSE examinations Year 11 pupils spend up to two weeks on work experience and shadowing.
During the school holidays there are also many residential visits. There are ski trips, music tours, French, German and Spanish exchanges, performing arts trips to New York, Geography field trips to Iceland and Biology trips to Costa Rica.
