MARITIME HERITAGE
The school is part of the city of Portsmouth and we celebrate our maritime heritage with a range of school trips supporting the curriculum to local attractions including King Henry VIII’s flagship the Mary Rose, HMS Warrior and HMS Victory.
OLD PORTSMOUTH
Gunwharf Quays, and the landmark Spinnaker Tower, are just a short walk away and the Cathedral of St Thomas, Old Portsmouth is often a venue for concerts and celebrations.
LOCAL ARCHITECT, THOMAS ELLIS OWEN (1805 - 1862)
Sixth Form House (opposite) and the heart of the Prep School, affectionately known as Dovercourt, are the work of Thomas Ellis Owen (1805 to 1862).
This well-known architect was instrumental in shaping the development of Southsea during the middle part of the 19th century.
REACHING PORTSMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL GDST ON A DAILY BASIS
Portsmouth High School is easy to reach on a daily basis. Motorway links make the drive into school straightforward and there are good public transport connections. Portsmouth and Southsea railway station is just a 15 minute walk away and a school minibus picks up pupils from Portsmouth Harbour railway station nearby.
The school runs its own minibus services throughout a wide catchment area as far as Southampton in the west, Chichester in the east and Petersfield in the north. The hovercraft terminal is just a couple of minutes walk across Southsea common making the journey to school easy for Isle of Wight commuters.
