An independent education for your daughter may be more affordable than you think…

Portsmouth High School’s fees are set by the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), whose mission is to provide a high quality education to as many girls as possible.


Fees effective for the Academic Year 2025/2026 (inclusive of VAT)


SIXTH FORM

Years 12 and 13

Monthly Fees: £1,662.75, Termly Fees: £6,651, Annual Fees: £19,953.

 

SENIOR SCHOOL

Years 7 to 11

PREP SCHOOL

Nursery and Pre-School

A standard day is 8.30am until 3.30pm. A session is 3 hours, either morning or afternoon and is charged at £27.95. Lunch hour is charged at £12.00 which includes two-course hot lunch. There is no additional charge for snacks, water or milk. Ballet, outdoor learning sessions, French lessons and local trips are all provided in the cost of the fees.

Parents can use Tax Free Childcare vouchers to offset against charges. Wraparound Care is available from 7.30am until 6.00pm and is free for all nursery and pre-school children who attend full-time. For children attending part-time, wraparound care is available charged at £5 for Breakfast Club (7.30am to 8.30am) and £6.80 per hour or £3.40 per half hour after school up until 6.00pm.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Monthly Fees £896.25, Termly Fees £3,585, Annual Fees £10,755.

Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

Monthly Fees: £1,181.50, Termly Fees: £4,726, Annual Fees £14,178.

Wraparound care from 7.30am until 6.00pm is available free for all children attending full-time.

 

LUNCHES

Lunch is charged separately on the fees account. The costs for the 2025/2026 academic year are £314 per term (annual £942).

Lunch is compulsory for all pupils from Reception to Year 11. Sixth Form students can purchase their lunch from the dining room or café daily.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • A non-refundable fee of £60 (£100 for overseas applications) is charged to process each student’s application, except for nursery and pre-school. This fee is inclusive of VAT.

  • When you accept a place at Portsmouth High School, we ask for an acceptance deposit of £500 to accept and secure the place. This deposit is refunded after a pupil has left (after deducting any outstanding amounts due to the school or the Trust). This fee is not returned if a pupil is withdrawn after the place has been accepted.

  • Fees can be paid monthly or termly via direct debit. You will be asked to complete a direct debit form when you sign the contract and accept the place.

  • Fees at Portsmouth High School cover all tuition, textbooks, scientific materials and external careers advice. Public examination fees are charged as an extra cost in accordance with GDST policy and are added to the summer term fees for Year 11 and Year 13.

    Wraparound care in the Prep, Nursery and Pre-School is included at no extra charge from 7.30am to 6.00pm every day during term-time for all children attending more than 30 hours per week. Wraparound care for children attending less than 30 hours in the Nursery and Pre-School is available charged at £5 for Breakfast Club (7.30am to 8.30am) and £6.80 per hour or £3.40 per half hour after school up until 6.00pm.

    Whenever possible, we will offer a term’s notice of the intention to increase the fees for tuition, lunch or extra subjects. However, if circumstances arise in which costs (e.g. substantial increases in teachers’ salaries) have to be recouped immediately, the Council of the Trust may be forced to increase fees at less than a term’s notice.

  • Parents with three or more children at the school at the same time will be eligible for a discount of 20% off fees for the third (and any subsequent) child. The discount will remain with the pupil until they leave the school.

  • Co-curricular activities are an integral part of every Portsmouth High School student’s education. With well over 100 co-curricular clubs on offer before school, after school, at lunch times every week, there is plenty on offer.

    Your daughter will be encouraged to make new friends and learn new skills in clubs ranging from arts, sports, music to medical and debating.

    Termly school fees are broadly inclusive of co-curricular activities. Some clubs run by external providers may incur a fee.

  • Tuition is available in voice and a wide range of musical instruments both at the senior and prep schools.

    As a guide price, music fees are £205 per term but the exact amount may vary depending on the individual external peripatetic music teacher providing the tuition.
