A recent article highlighted the growing concern around ‘cosmeticorexia’ – an increasing obsession with achieving perfect skin through extensive skincare routines and cosmetic products Cosmeticorexia: How girls are falling down a skincare rabbit hole – BBC News. This trend, driven largely by social media and influencer culture, is leading increasingly young girls to adopt overly complex and unnecessary skincare habits.
Here at PHS, we recognise that issues like this are constantly evolving. This is why our PSHE curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure it remains relevant to the changing pressures our students face in the digital age. Alongside core themes such as wellbeing, relationships, physical health and online safety, we actively incorporate discussions around emerging trends including body image, social media influence, consumer culture and, indeed, skincare.
The GDST philosophy is to always have eyes on the horizon to ensure we are preparing our girls for the future. By responding to new and emerging issues, we help them develop the critical thinking skills to question unrealistic online messages and make informed choices about their wellbeing. Our aim is to ensure every girl develops confidence, resilience and a healthy sense of self-worth in an ever-changing world.
