How to help children embrace change

As we embark upon a new academic year at Portsmouth High Prep School, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the theme of my assembly on Monday: change.

Change is something we all experience – sometimes expected, sometimes surprising – and it can be challenging. In our assembly, we explored how change, while often difficult, is also an opportunity for growth. Whether it’s moving to a new class, meeting a new teacher, or simply adjusting to a new routine, each change brings with it the chance to learn, adapt, and thrive.

I have been incredibly impressed by how well the children have embraced the changes at the start of this term. Their resilience, positivity, and enthusiasm have been a joy to witness. From confidently settling into new classrooms to forming new friendships and engaging with their learning, they have shown maturity and courage beyond their years.

As the year unfolds, I am very much looking forward to seeing each child continue to grow and develop. At Portsmouth High Prep School, we are committed to providing a place of stability and calm, where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to be their best selves. It is in this nurturing environment that they will flourish – not just academically, but emotionally and socially too.

Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey together. Here’s to a year full of discovery, development, and joyful learning.
