At Portsmouth High Prep, we believe that a rich variety of experiences helps children grow into confident, curious and resilient young people. While academic progress is vital, it is often through wider opportunities that pupils discover new strengths, practise collaboration, and learn more about themselves and one another. Our Year 5 Watersports Week is a perfect example of this philosophy in action.
Throughout the week, pupils have taken part in activities such as sailing, kayaking and raft‑building, each one offering its own blend of challenge, excitement and teamwork. For some, it is the thrill of trying something entirely new; for others, it is the satisfaction of overcoming a wobble in confidence and finding their balance on the water. What unites them all was a sense of shared achievement and joyful perseverance.
These experiences matter. They teach children to communicate clearly, support their peers and manage moments of uncertainty with increasing independence. Just as importantly, they create memories that strengthen friendships and deepen their connection to school life.
As a community, we are proud to offer such a breadth of opportunities. They enrich learning, nurture character and help every child discover the many ways they can shine.
