We put girls’ sport at the heart of school life

It is great to see the focus on women’s sport ever growing. Thinking back to my own school days at a mixed comprehensive school, I dreaded PE lessons.

Although reasonably athletic and secretively competitive when younger, I worried far too much about how I looked on a pitch: about getting muddy or sweaty, or that I might literally drop the ball and be laughed at by my team-mates. Back then, sport was definitely seen as the boys’ domain. I love the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign encouraging girls and women of all ages and fitness levels to become more active. Sport can play an important role in shaping confident, capable young women, and at PHS, it is proudly placed at the heart of school life. By giving girls’ sport priority, we encourage every girl to discover her strengths, work collaboratively, and develop essential leadership skills. On the pitch, girls learn to communicate clearly and motivate each other, building respect and lifelong friendships. Sport allows students to experience both victory and failure, developing resilience and a positive self-image.

Our exceptional sports programme begins in the Prep School, introducing girls to movement, teamwork, and personal achievement from an early age. We are proud of the Prep fixture programme which the girls are able to enjoy from a young age. This journey continues through Senior School and into Sixth Form, with regular fixtures, various clubs, and opportunities to compete regionally and nationally. Through sport, our girls grow in confidence, thrive as team players, and emerge as capable leaders for life.
