Year 7 start their senior school years with such confidence and positivity

Well done to all our Year 7s for starting their senior school journey with such confidence and positivity. Moving up to senior school is a big step and, nationally, there is concern about how young people manage this transition. New routines, making friends, and adjusting to new expectations can feel daunting at first, but our wonderful Year 7s have shown remarkable adaptability and resilience.

One of the highlights of the term so far was the Year 7 overnight bonding trip, where pupils threw themselves wholeheartedly into the activities. It was wonderful to see new friendships forming, teamwork in action, and such a spirit of encouragement and fun. These shared experiences have laid a strong foundation for the year ahead and reflect the openness and enthusiasm the girls have brought into school life.

I wrote recently about how important the start of senior school is in response to a study highlighting a concerning national trend: that one in four children starts to disengage from school during their first year of secondary education, with the dip being greater for girls. I am delighted to say at PHS we buck this particular trend! Year 7: The Pivotal Point for Pupil Engagement | ImpactEd. This study emphasises to me how crucial it is to provide the right support and opportunities for pupils to thrive. Our Year 7s are a fantastic example of what is possible when young people are welcomed, encouraged, and given space to grow. We are proud of every one of you and look forward to watching you continue to flourish.
