Booking is open for entrance examinations for entry into Portsmouth High Senior School in September 2027. All girls who sit our entrance examinations will be considered for academic scholarships; these are awarded to those girls who achieve the highest marks in the entrance examinations and a separate application is not needed.

Mathematics Paper
Candidates for Year 7 entry will be required to sit a mathematics paper lasting for one hour which will include short number work as well as longer, more challenging, questions. A calculator is not allowed.

English Paper
The Year 7 entry English examination is set over one hour, during which candidates will need to plan and execute a comprehension and piece of writing.

These tests in English and mathematics are designed to test potential rather than knowledge. This means we would not expect your daughter to be revising a great deal of work in preparation for the entrance examination.

Please let the school know if your daughter has any special requirements and is entitled to extra time for her entrance examinations.
