Portsmouth High Nursery School had a wonderful time meeting different farm animals when Longdown Activity Farm visited this week.
An adorable donkey called Max, two noisy ducks, two pigs, two goats, two hens and enough fluffy chicks for everyone to hold, took up residence for a morning on the lawn in the grounds of the school. The children were able to stroke the animals and describe how they felt.
The farm visit was designed to fit in with Nursery’s ‘animal’ theme that the children have been exploring over this half term. Part of the Nursery has been converted into a
veterinary surgery and the children have been taking it in turns to play the various staff roles in the new surgery. They have also been working hard with their phonics activities sorting animals into groups by initial sound.
Nursery teacher Mrs Dempster said “Animal themed activities, and the recent Nursery performance of The Little Red Hen in assembly, have provided perfect opportunities for exploring the various Early Years Foundation Stage developmental areas. The farm visit was a lovely treat for the children rounding off our animal theme at the end of term”.
