In the Pre-School engagement with stories and fun activities each day in phonics sessions have been connected to different letters enabling the children to learn letter sounds as well as recognise and write their letters.
One of the favourite stories so far this term has been The Tiger who came to Tea. The children enjoyed exploring the sound ‘t’ and retelling the story with a large friendly class tiger, a teapot and a variety of sandwiches, buns and cakes to bring the story to life.
The children have also spent time enjoying other areas of the curriculum. In fun mathematical activities they have been learning to recognise numbers, as well as developing their
counting and estimating skills. As part of scientific explorations, the children were fascinated by what happened to brown sugar when it was mixed into water of different temperatures.
Pre-School teacher Mrs Dempster said “With a little creative planning, it is possible to provide fun and playful activities that the children love participating in. This enables them to make progress in their learning and offers a range of opportunities for all the children to develop their abilities and interests. It is a lovely atmosphere in the Pre-School and the children enjoy learning so many new things on a daily basis”.
