This week Pre-School children have been excitedly celebrating Chinese New Year.
Dressing up in traditional Chinese costumes has been so much fun and children have enjoyed role play in their outdoor theatre, especially when a large green dragon appeared. Pupils have developed their mark-making and observational skills by trying out some Chinese writing and advancing their fine motor skills through making lanterns.
The children have also been experimenting through tasting a range of different foods in the Chinese restaurant created in the Pre-School classroom.
Pre-School teacher Mrs Dempster said “By teaching the children about the Chinese New Year through stories, music and watching programmes, they have developed their understanding of other cultures and how different people around the world celebrate special events. We have children from a variety of different backgrounds, faiths and beliefs and encourage all children to be inclusive and respectful towards others”.
