Reception Class are learning all about ‘People Who Help Us’. During guided home learning the class have been thinking about people who help us at home, how we can say thank you to them and how we can make promises to be helpful too.
Last week the girls thought about helpful people in our community and learned about dentists, vets and doctors. They made playdough versions of the different types of teeth and virtually brushed a huge school set of teeth with enormous toothbrushes. The girls listened and moved to the Carnival of the Animals, made pet carriers from cardboard boxes and enjoyed a lot of role-play during the week.
The literacy focus was writing questions to ask a real doctor and practising asking them with grown-ups using eye contact. A highlight of the week was when the class welcomed a virtual visitor, Doctor Helen, who kindly made a video for the class answering some of the interesting questions expertly written by the girls.
Teacher Mrs Gotheridge said ‘It’s been a great week of guided home learning for Reception Class and I am so grateful to Dr Helen for answering all the children’s questions. Next week we will be looking at the emergency services and we have another virtual visitor ready to meet the class”.
