Each week children from Pre-School and Reception Class enjoy coming into the Prep School library for a story session with the librarian from the Senior School. They have time to explore all the books either independently or with a friend and find something that interests them.
The skills that children learn through listening to stories are vital for later reading and writing, however, they also learn the skills that will help them with talking, listening and communication.
Librarian Mrs Bartlett said ‘Listening to stories can help to widen a child’s vocabulary and comprehension ability. It also helps them to develop their empathy, build confidence and expand their imagination. Books provide an opportunity to talk about real-world situations in an age-appropriate way and benefit even the very youngest children’.
