‘Green Fingers Club’, for pupils from Years 3 to 6, meets every Friday lunchtime in the extensive secret garden behind the wall at Portsmouth High Prep School.
After sowing seeds and bulbs before the Easter holidays, the girls came back to find lots of healthy plants growing in the summer term. The club have discussed plants that will attract bees and butterflies, and have also grown seedlings for food.
Each week the girls have gradually been planting in the raised beds in the garden. Vegetables and fruits including peas, spring onions, spinach and strawberries are now growing as well as anemones, begonias, marigolds, sunflowers and sweet William. The girls are very much looking forward to watching their plants grow and hopefully enjoying some of the fruits of their labours before the end of the summer term.
