Sport is back in all its glory

The quiet tension at the start of the race, the sound of the gun and then an explosion of energy and cheering; how we have missed live sport and whole school community spirit, but it was back in all its glory this week.

Thirty three track races, 21 field event competitions, hundreds of athletes and staff and beautiful weather.  The main competition for the House Cup was won by Bronte for the fourth consecutive time, but Austen were hot on their heels. The Sprint Cup was retained by Ruby, Year 13, with superb performances in the senior 100m, 200m and relay (despite her broken right arm). Quote of the day; ‘I think I should use my left arm for relay?’

A new record was set by Amelia, Year 13, in the senior long jump with 4.47m and Darcey, Year 9, was only 1cm off equalling the school record in Year 9 javelin with the furthest throw of the morning in any event; 21.64m.

Gaskell won the fun race and individual Victrix winners will be announced at a later date.

For Years 7 and 8 this was their first experience of a full and traditional sports day at PHS and for the Year 13s who chose to return it was their last. We were delighted that they took to the track for one last time.

All pupils did a fantastic job of competing, helping with officiating and supporting their houses.
