Prep School musicians delight their audience at the Summer Concert

Musicians at Portsmouth High Prep School treated their audience to delightful performances during this year’s summer concert.

Girls performed pieces from the school’s prestigious ‘Young Musician of the Year’ competition held earlier this term which attracted 125 entries from budding musicians across the school. The Junior Young Musician (Years 3 and 4) was awarded to Emily in Year 4 and the overall Young Musician of the Year 2021 (Years 5 and 6) was won by Xanthe in Year 6.

Xanthe said ‘I was so proud when I heard I’d won. I started learning the violin in Reception Class and I’ve now reached Grade 5. It was so inspiring to hear the other musicians play and learn from other people. I want to be a vet when I grow up but I want to be a composer too in my spare time”.

Prep School Director of Music Mrs Hill said’ I am immensely proud of all the girls who have played tonight. The standard in our Young Musician competition this year was incredibly high and it was wonderful to hear the girls perform again for our Summer Concert. I very much look forward to seeing the girls progress with their music as they move through the school’.
