Girls in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were delighted to welcome acclaimed children’s author Jenny Pearson to Portsmouth High Prep School for a lively and engaging session based on her latest book, How Not to Be a Pirate.
Jenny’s enthusiasm, humour and storytelling captivated her audience from the very start. The girls thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a range of interactive activities inspired by the book’s characters and adventures. There was plenty of laughter as pupils shared ideas, answered questions and immersed themselves in the world of pirates.
Jenny’s energetic presentation encouraged creativity and inspired many budding young writers, making the session both entertaining and educational.
“It fired up our imaginations and opened our minds to new ideas,” said Jemima, Year 6.
“It was super inspirational for writing our own stories,” added Bea, also in Year 6.
A particular highlight for many pupils was the opportunity to purchase a copy of How Not to Be a Pirate and have it personally signed by Jenny. The girls were thrilled to meet the author and chat with her about her books, characters and writing journey.
Frances, Year 6, said:
“I bought a book from Jenny and have finished it already! It was a great read and I’m already excited for the next book. I asked Jenny about it and she told me it would be published next year, so I’m really looking forward to that.”
Year 4 teacher Mrs Parrott said ‘The visit was a memorable and inspiring occasion that has further encouraged a love of reading, storytelling and creative writing across the Prep School community’.
