Igniting a love of music with specialist teaching in Nursery and Pre-School

One of the many advantages of joining our Nursery and Pre-School is the opportunity for children to learn from a range of specialist, fully qualified teachers across a wide range of subjects including languages, PE, music, ballet and outdoor learning.

As part of this enriched provision, our Prep School Director of Music, Mrs Hill, delivers a weekly afternoon music session in the school’s dedicated music room.

Mrs Hill explains: ‘It is always a pleasure to welcome our youngest children into the music room. During our sessions, we play musical games, sing a variety of songs, take turns to lead the class, perform in groups, explore a wide range of percussion instruments, and choose friends to work with.’

‘It is important that Nursery and Pre-School children feel confident in the choices they make. Their first steps into our music curriculum are rooted in practical, hands-on exploration. We make plenty of noise—and above all, we have fun. Through discovering their vocal range, working as a whole class and in smaller groups, and experimenting with individual and collective sound, the children develop key skills that support the beginning of their musical journeys.’

This engaging and supportive approach ensures that our youngest learners build confidence, creativity and a genuine enjoyment of music from the very start.
