The school also has use of some of the best sports facilities in the local area including co-ownership, with the University of Portsmouth, of a multi-use games area of four floodlit courts and access to a synthetic turf pitch for hockey and football as well as a grass athletics track. A competitive spirit…
As part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, Portsmouth High School has unique opportunities to take part in many GDST tournaments competing across 25 schools across the country. Competitions are held in gymnastics, cross country, netball, hockey, tennis, rounders, athletics, golf and swimming and the standard is consistently high. The school also regularly competes in national schools’ competitions and in many local leagues as well as against other schools in the local area.
Sports tours are a regular highlight of the sport calendar. The last hockey and netball tour to Barbados saw a squad of 32 girls set off on an 8,000 mile round trip to experience the challenges of strong opposition—and blazing temperatures. Sports tours offer the challenge of play in a different culture and climate against a variety of talent and players always come home enlivened and passionate about their sport.
Sports Scholarships are awarded on merit to girls entering the Sixth Form at Portsmouth High School.
