Georgie – Deputy Head Girl
I joined Portsmouth High School in Year 9 and am currently studying biology, chemistry and geography with the intention of studying medicine at university. My ambition is to hopefully go on to become either a surgeon or accident and emergency doctor.
Portsmouth High School has a really vibrant atmosphere, and everyone feels a part of a close community whether you’re in Year 13 or Year 7 and I know I will stay in contact with people I have met here for the rest of my life. The school has really helped me gain confidence, from dancing in the Sixth Form Fashion Show to performing at the Gala Concert, it has allowed me to come out of my shell. The teachers will help in any way they can, and in the Sixth Form become a really important source of information or just someone you can have a chat to.
Outside of school I’m on the England Development Programme for Swimming and have competed at international level. I compete for the school at the GDST swimming gala which is a really fun event between all the GDST schools. Alongside my A Levels and EPQ I am taking a Diploma in Sporting Excellence which has given me an insight into the different aspects of what it takes to become an elite athlete, as well as hopefully going on a trip to Dubai in February. Being so busy between training 8 times a week and school I have had to become very organised and disciplined, but the school has helped me with time management and are very supportive of everything I do out of school.
I really enjoy the variety of clubs that are on offer. I am currently part of the school orchestra and Cantabile, which is a senior singing group. I have also taken part in cricket, football and Christmas decoration club throughout my time at the school. No matter what the activity is I’m not scared to just give it a go which shows how comfortable I have become at Portsmouth High School.
