Welcome back to the summer term | Portsmouth High School

Welcome back to the summer term

I would like to offer a hearty welcome back to all the children today. It is lovely to see them bounce into school with smiles aplenty.

We were not idle at school during the break. Our holiday club ran incredibly successfully and was once more over-subscribed on all days. We have increased capacity for the summer, but I would urge you to book this if you require it as places will be at a premium. We have also had some tree work and internal refurbishment completed. Unfortunately, one of our large trees at the rear of Dovercourt has died and has had to come down. We will replace this, as we always do, in the near future. The ICT room has been completely redesigned and will offer a much improved, modern learning experience for the girls throughout the school.

I should like to welcome our new assistant heads to the Prep School. Mrs Ruth Irvine-Capel will lead pastoral support and Mr Tom Bromfield academic provision. With these experienced and talented practitioners, the school is now well placed to continue to develop and adapt to the changing world which faces us over the next few years. They join Mrs Victoria De La Grange and myself as the Prep Leadership Team.

I am particularly excited that we have been shortlisted for the Times Educational Supplement, Prep School of the Year Award. This is the most hotly contested award in our category and to be nominated is testament to hard working and caring staff that always put the children first. It is wonderful that they have been recognised in this way.

To finish, I would like to extend my congratulations to Mr Mohammed Rahman on the birth of his first son, Aayan. I know there has been much excitement amongst both staff and children and we are all looking forward to meeting him in due course.
